The Norlund double bit axe is was trying to capitalize on Nessmuk's axe I have voiced my opinion a on trying to replicate Nessmuk's trio before . Nessmuk was barely 5 ft tall 100 lbs soaking wet and suffered from tuberculosis . If he was bigger and in better health he would have used a bigger axe .

I have been looking at the small GB axes to carry in my back pack and think I will restore this one now. Did I get a good deal and how old I went to an estate auction last Saturday, and bought an axe marked "Genuine Norlund" and "Hudson Bay" It is in AWESOME condition. This is a full sized axe, the type that a bona fide Paul Bunyan would carry into the woods for a full day of work, and not some wimpy camp axe that you would use to split slivers of pine for kindling.

I originally purchased the axe on eBay and have admittedly not done a great deal to improve it. Honestly, I tend to admire the axe more than use it as I don't want to damage it. The head has much of the original greenish maroon coloring. The head is in excellent condition for its age with a crisp Genuine Norlund makers mark. That being said, they have a cult like following when it comes to price valuation. There are some brands I pay big prices for but I have not understood the market price paid for Norlund, Keen Kutter or Winchester as another. The Norlund line of axes developed a reputation for high quality and although they were marketed in both Canada and the US the demand decreased considerably in the early 1980s. I have a Norlund like this.
